The Context Window Is the New Schema

The database schema was the lingua franca of the data engineer — it defined what existed, what was possible, and what would break. In the agentic era, the context window has taken that role.

What you put in, how you organize it, what you leave out — this is the new data modeling. An agent operating on stale or incomplete context is no different from a query hitting a denormalized table. Garbage in, garbage out, now at inference speed.

The engineers who will matter most in the next few years aren’t the ones who can prompt well. They’re the ones who can architect the pipelines that ensure the right context arrives, clean and complete, before the agent ever starts.
